Central Alberta Economic Partnership is a provincial regional economic alliance and has set the pace for many others in the province. It has some best practices in innovative project identification and development. The focus has been on serving the communities, working with business, investment attraction, regional marketing and using third party expertise to help leverage resources.

The Pysanka Festival, Vegreville, Alberta – began in 1973 and was awarded the 2002 Attractions Canada for Cultural Events. This helped to feature unique cultural assets of the town.

How have others done it and attracted people to their town or city? Several examples of different approaches show it can be done. These different and novel ideas show much can be done. Torrington - The World Famous Gopher Hole Museum, Torrington, Alberta – opened June 1996, and has received over 20,000 visitors. This has helped the town to gain profile.

KTEC is a prairie-based economic development agency which started up to address the declining economy in the 1980s. The agency was created as a state agency and has changed its focus slightly over the period. It is seen as best model for certain aspects of innovation, research and prairie co-operation.
